10-Protection for the Troops and Police

Scripture: “Blessed is he who has regard for the weak; the LORD delivers him in times of trouble. The LORD will protect him and preserve his life; he will bless him in the land and not surrender him to the desire of his foes.” -Psalm 41:1-2 (NIV)

Prayer: God of power and might, there is no one who can challenge Your power or authority. You are the King of all creation.

I bring before You the troops and police serving in Baghdad today. They are there to protect the weak and the helpless. According to Your word, I call forth the protection they need today.

Deliver them from death and let the plans of those who hate peace fail, and their bullets fall to the ground. Most High God, we ask for You to defend those who defend the weak — surround them with Your favor as a shield. May Your angels guard them and lead them out of the snares of the wicked.

Dear Father in Heaven, my heart cries out for the believers in Iraq today, and for the Assyrian believers who have been scattered around the world, who are watching events there with great concern. Please help them to know that they are not entirely forgotten and misunderstood! Please help them to know that at least this one person has been and is praying for them. Last night I heard on BBC that an Islamist in Iraq has declared that Christians are now fair game. They are not fair game, Lord. They are men, women and children created in Your image. To cut them down is murder and it will incur Your righteous judgment. May the person who uttered this reckless and foolish statement and those who might have believed it come to a much better understanding of truth, and reality, and especially of You and Your ways, Dear Lord God! May the murderous thoughts and desires of their hearts be utterly condemned, even by their own consciences. May their pride be brought low and their arrogance be fully exposed in their own eyes. May Your people take courage. May they know that even if they suffer in this life for Jesus’ sake it will result in a lasting eternal reward that is greater than anything this life can possibly offer. May they hang on to You and Your Word, no matter what comes their way. May they personally know and feel the help and comfort of Your Holy Spirit, and all the more when things become difficult. May none of their sufferings be in vain, but may all accomplish the things that You have intended. May Your people look up, and see You, Lord Jesus, and may they know You are ever so very near. In Your Holy and Most Precious Name I pray. Amen.

    I will lift up my eyes to the mountains;
From whence shall my help come?
My help comes from the LORD,
Who made heaven and earth. (Psalm 121:1-2)

And tho’ this world with devils filled
    Should threaten to undo us,
We will not fear, for God has willed
His truth to triumph through us!
    The prince of darkness grim
    We tremble not for him,
    His rage we can endure,
For lo, his doom is sure,
One little Word shall fell him!

That Word above all earthy powers,
    No thanks to them abideth.
The Spirit and the gifts are ours,
Through Him Who with us sideth!
    Let goods and kindred go,
    This mortal life also,
    The body they may kill,
    God’s truth abideth still!
And He shall reign forever! (Martin Luther)

I have just read of the continuing abuses & torture of prisoners by Iraqui military. The US condoned it by employing it at Abu Garhaib and it continues today. Lord, I pray for each and every man (or woman) that is in a position of military or civilian law enforcement. May they see the other with whom they deal each day not as an “enemy” but as a human being created in your image and likeness. May they have an understanding that you are a great God that can provide for ALL creatures. That one does not need to destroy another human in order to have enough for one’s self and one’s family.

Father Most High, Creator of the Universe, Ruler of the Universe, Your Word says that the horse is prepared for the battle, but safety is of the Lord. WE come to You, therefore, asking that YOu would provide the safety for those who are in places of danger in their mission of securing peace for the weak and needy. We ask You to be the shelter, the strong tower, the covering in the day of battle for these military and police who are standing guard in Baghdad, Adhamiya, and all Iraq.
In addition. Lord, we ask that You would help all those who have a grievance against others to forgive. Grant them grace to let go of vengeance, bitterness, unforgiveness, and blame. Soften hearts and bring reconciliation through the name and the Blood of Your Son, Jesus Christ our Savior. For He taught us to pray saying, “Father, forgive them for they know not what they do.” Amen.

Please bring ALL of them back to their families and prevent those who promote evil from triumph as you lift your mighty shield of protection. Father,We stand altogether in asking for safety for the military preces in baghdad and for their police. God they are trying to bring safety and peace for all the innocent ones.

We link shields around them, the shields you provided for us as part of our armor. We hem them in to protect them from any weapons of evil aimed at them.

Lord, I am asking for evil hearts to surrender their spirits into you hands. Holy Spirit who speaks all languages, draw these men. Deliver them from their evil desires and plans. Plant new hearts in them that their will won’t be for evil any longer.

Jesus you are the Prince of Peace. We are asking for a shift of power in the middle east. Bring this darkness to an end we pray.

    AMEN
