(Hold the Peace is a daily campaign of prayer through July 2009, to resist the current surge of violence in Baghdad. Please join us.)
Break the power of violence
Scripture: All kings will bow down to him and all nations will serve him. For he will deliver the needy who cry out, the afflicted who have no-one to help. He will take pity on the weak and the needy and save the needy from death. He will rescue them from oppression and violence, for precious is their blood in his sight. -Psalms 72:11-14
Prayer: You are the God of Mercy and Justice, You rule with a heart of compassion and Your righteous right arm. The weak and the needy are near to Your heart, Lord, and their enemies are Your enemies.
I bring Your attention Lord to those who are oppressed by violence in Baghdad. Let Your compassion for them be stirred like a mighty storm that sweeps aside everything in it’s path. Move through the streets of Baghdad today and come to the aid of the weak and needy. Rebuke the destroyer, and set the people free from intimidation and fear.
I ask Lord for a strategic neighborhood to be touched by Your spirit of peace today. Outline the boundaries with Your angels and establish a safe zone for the innocent. Make this a neighborhood of refuge, and a model for all of Baghdad. In Jesus name, amen.
