Thu- Hold the Peace

(Hold the Peace is a daily campaign of prayer through July 2009, to resist the current surge of violence in Baghdad. Please join us.)

Tame the Troublemakers

Scripture: And it will come about after this, That I will pour out My Spirit on all mankind; And your sons and daughters will prophesy, Your old men will dream dreams, Your young men will see visions. -Joel 2:28

Prayer: Lord Jesus, You are worthy of all glory and honor and praise. There is no other God besides You, and one day every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that You alone are God.

Lord, I bring to Your attention, the main troublemakers in Baghdad, and You know who they are. I want to target one of them in prayer right now, and ask that tonight and every night this week You would disturb his sleep with dreams and visions he cannot forget.

Speak to his heart and convict him of the wrong he has been doing. Break down the hardness that violence has forged in his heart, and give him a fresh new outlook.

Give him no rest Lord, until he turns from his wickedness, and accepts a better way. Birth a new hope in his heart and give him the grace to let go of the past and lay down his violent ways. Tame the troublemaker Lord, and make him a man of peace. Then use him to further Your cause in Baghdad. In Jesus name, amen.

    Mary Says:

Lord God, let violence, revenge, hatred, rivalries, and murder not prevail in Baghdad and throughout Iraq! Let man’s agendas not prevail, but please set up Your order in Baghdad and all of Iraq. Let rival groups long for peace and truth, and by Your mercy and grace, please enable them to come together for the sake of peace and give up their rivalries and need for vengeance. Let them see, open their eyes to the futility of teh cycles of violence that they have seen, and let them desire change and order. Set up Your order, and may the Light of the Gospel of Jesus Christ spread and flourish within Iraq, in Jesus’ name!!!

    Psalms 31
For the choir director: A psalm of David.
    1 O LORD, I have come to you for protection;
    don’t let me be disgraced.
Save me, for you do what is right.
    2 Turn your ear to listen to me;
    rescue me quickly.
    Be my rock of protection,
a fortress where I will be safe.
3 You are my rock and my fortress.
For the honor of your name, lead me out of this danger.
4 Pull me from the trap my enemies set for me,
for I find protection in you alone.
5 I entrust my spirit into your hand.
Rescue me, LORD, for you are a faithful God.

6 I hate those who worship worthless idols.
    I trust in the LORD.
7 I will be glad and rejoice in your unfailing love,
for you have seen my troubles,
and you care about the anguish of my soul.
8 You have not handed me over to my enemies
but have set me in a safe place.
I pray this salm over Bagdag AMEN

Dear Father, please answer this prayer just as it’s written. Let your kingdom come and your will be done today in the life of this troublemaker. Give him a “Saul of Tarsus” experience and use him to advance the Kingdom of Jesus Christ. I ask in Jesus’ name. AMEN.

Father, where we fail You please grant us awareness and a contrite spirit and the willingness to do what is right. Strengthen us to be faithful and persistent and to no grow weary in well-doing. Bring a harvest of souls for Your Glory from around the globe!

    AMEN

    Peggy Says:

Father, You are able to turn this situation around for good. I have faith to belive all things are possible with you. You are a mighty GOD. I am asking for a turn around of hard and evil hearts. Break those evil patterns and plant your love in their hearts to seek after you. Lord we are powerless to change such men, but with you all things are possible. Replace revenge with eagerness and a desire to be generous and compassionate with great love for their fellow man. So many evil ones mixed in with innocent ones, but YOU, GOD know all men’s hearts. Turn them toward home and to YOU the only one true GOD forever and ever. Lord, fight this battle. We raise your banner high. AMEN

  6. 57
    Mary Ann Says:

Father, I just totally agree with that prayer! Please answer today, Lord. Turn this troublemaker to you and make him a great thorn in the enemy’s side as he commits his life to Jesus and works to advance your kingdom. In Jesus’ name. AMEN.

    Binti Simba Says:

LORD and Father of all mankind. Thank you for loving me. O Lord, gracious Lord, Father, Jesus said: ‘the Father so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.” How sweet are those words to my ears!

Abba, bring those very words to the ears of that man you are targeting through these prayers. We stand in the gap and ask for his sins to be forgiven him. We call him ‘Peacemaker’ we call those things that are not as though they were. We thank you for the changed lives of those around him as we pray. Glorify your name O Lord, Only you are able to do the impossible. Amen

    Cindy Johnson Says:

    Dear Father,

We acknowledge our total dependence on you for your work in this city and country. We know one of the greatest phrases in the Bible is “but God” because you bring order out of chaos and peace out of war. We ask that you would work mightily in this city, and country to bring about your purpose for this land. Protect those who seek peace and those who are deployed to do so. Change those who seek war. As you spoke and created at the beginning of time, speak into this situation for your glory. And may all the glory be yours.

  9. 54
    Binti Simba Says:

Now unto the Lord, eternal, immortal, invisble the only wise God, be glory and honour forever. The Kingdoms of this earth must become the kingdom of our God and His Christ!

Abba as you target this troublemaker and change His name to peacemaker, son of the most High God, keep him and all like him away from evil influences from across borders and other nations. We draw a demarcation line with the blood of Jesus, surround him and all like him with the blood and fire that the enemy cannot penetrate. Thank you Father in Yeshua’s name.

    Elder Donna Says:

    Mary Ann Says:

    Dear Father,

The word is that 4000 of our troops are coming home, and we praise you for that. Bless them and protect them as they come back to us; clear their minds and enable them to reunite with their families without any difficulties, bad memories, sicknesses, or the like. Cover each one with the blood of Jesus, and reward each one for the job he or she has done. But Father, so many, many of our young men and women have been wounded or killed over there. My prayer is that these sacrifices will not have been in vain. Don’t let these tragic deaths, life-changing wounds, horrid memories–don’t let all that be wasted by allowing the enemy to steal this country back through all the factions fighting one another, bringing instability and disaster again. Please, Father, take control of the nation of Iraq and the city of Baghdad. Let your church rise up as it did in the book of Acts, and let your signs and wonders and miracles be seen. Draw this population that has been deceived by that false religion to see the truth of Jesus. Please, Lord, I ask in Jesus’ name that you will bring your real peace now. Replace our troops with the reality of Jesus in the lives of the people of Iraq. Thank you for all you have done, and for all you will continue to do, because of your great love. AMEN.

    Betsy P. Says:

Lord of all wisdom, power, and might, I come in agreement with Wayne’s prayer and the prayers of the intercessors, asking you to strip Baghdad and all of Iraq from the hands of the violent, and put that city and nation into the hands of the people of peace.

Confound and confuse the wicked, and the troublemakers. Put hooks in their noses and turn them around, sending them back to where they came from. Then, reveal Yourself to them as Savior of the world. In the name of Jesus, the Prince of Peace, amen.

  14. 49
    Laurie Says:

Lord, even as you have given me dreams tonight, I stand in agreement that the sleep would be troubled and the dreams would be remembered. In their concern lead them to those who can rightly interpret their dreams, even as Joseph did, that they might understand true life and death in your kingdom and come to the saving knowledge of your grace in Christ. May they then, run the race of peace you have destined them to complete with the fullness of faith in Christ and your full covering as one of the peacemakers you have ordained for this crucial hour in this turbulent place. In Jesus’ name we pray and ask for your Spirit to move mightily. Amen

  15. 48
    Betsy P. Says:

Again, Lord, I come in agreement with Wayne’s prayer as I bow before You, acknowledging that You alone are God. Oh, Father, in Your wrath remember mercy, and change the hearts of the troublemakers. Grant them the gift of repentance. Cause them to sorrow unto repentance. Enfold them in the love of Jesus, and carry them in Your bosom forever. In the name of the One Who admonished us to cry out to the Lord of the Harvest, I pray. Amen.

  16. 47
    Betsy McAllister Says:

For this cause I bow my knees to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, to agree heartily with Wayne’s prayer prompt, and to acknowledge that You are able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think according to Your power that works in the hearts of men, women, and children throughout the world. Thank You for sending Your Holy Spirit among the peoples of the earth that we might be convicted of sin, righteousness, and judgement.

May none of the troublemakers in Baghdad, Iraq, and Afghanistan be found among the military or police. May all of the troublemakers bow the knee to the Lordship of Jesus Christ the King of kings and the Lord of lords. It’s in His name that I pray, amen.

  17. 46
    Isaiah Says:

    Dear Heavenly Father:

I pray the prayer that is for one troublemaker in Bagdad for every single troublemaker in Bagdad.

    In Jesus name,

    Amen

    Ginna Says:

Lord, I would just like to agree with Janice’s prayer/description of how you can change the countenance of a individual. Thank you that you are in the business of transforming lives. May you continue to soften hearts Lord, and fill them with hope that comes from you. May you be glorified in Baghdad, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, the Middle East, and the world. In Christ’s name,

    Janice Says:

    Heavenly Father,

You are over the Armies of Heaven. You have powerful forces to enact Your will. Most of what You do is unseen in the details we overlook. You make changes in the hearts of men. We are totally unaware exactly how You do it but we know it involves Jesus and the Holy Spirit. O Lord, please this day do a work in the heart of one in Baghdad so that the troublemaker is tamed for all time. Please make way for a new man to transform from the old man. I ask this of You simply because I know and believe that You have the power and ability to do it. Lord, may the people who are witness to this man’s personality see a change in his countenance. Soften his heart and erase the hard anger lines that have been etched upon his face for years. Please save his soul as only You can do. O Lord, You are a doing God. You are always doing good, day in and day out. I rejoice knowing that if I have asked in Your will this troublemaker will be tamed right away. I pray today in the blessed name of Jesus, Amen

  20. 43
    Jean Says:

I am eager and hopeful to see what You will do, Dear Lord, in order to turn those who have been opposing Your will in Iraq into faithful servants willing to lay down their lives for Your sake. I pray for those who have suffered at the hands of careless and even hate-filled individuals, that their suffering will not have been in vain, but will result in change and healing in that nation. Father, I pray that in Iraq evil men will not go from bad to worse this day, but that there will be those who will come to repentance and turn from their wicked thoughts and from their evil deeds. In Jesus’ Precious and Holy Name. Amen.

  21. 42
    Janice Says:

    Heavenly Father,

Today I come in prayer through Jesus seeking Your best for Baghdad and all of Iraq. Please Lord, act in the life of a troublemaker there this day making them to become peaceful like a lion that befriends a lamb. Take away the desire to swallow up the innocent by force of strength. Please make the stronger to feel protective of the weaker. Make this a day of no more trouble making. Show the enemy the advantages of being a friend. Let them feel the peace that comes only as a gift from You. Ease the enemy’s troubled heart and mind so that they can see and feel the freshness of freedom from acting on evil desires. No more let the land be ruled by the whims of terror and where it wants to randomly strike out. Keep all the people safe both from the enemies and from themselves. Teach them all to worship instead of cursing and plotting evil. May You receive an abundance of praise and glory as Your Spirit inhabits the land and the hearts of the people. Blessed are You and all who choose to follow Jesus, our eternal king. Amen

  22. 41
    Janice from Georgia Says:

    Heavenly Father,

You have infinite wisdom. You alone know the hearts of people. You are the ultimate strength in the world. You are above all and see all. No detail escapes Your knowledge. You see the whole picture (the forest) and the individual picture (the trees). Coming to You through Jesus and knowing at least this much about Your greatness I ask a thing of You today that has been asked at other times and I pray today will be the day You will act upon my prayer if it is within Your will. Please turn the heart of a troublemaker in Baghdad to love You and to respond to what Jesus did on the cross for his sake. Do not let that troublemaker continue to flounder around the city doing evil and harm to all in his path. Please make straight his crooked path. Please let the Holy Spirit ignite his heart with desire for the Lord. Do not let him rest until he goes through this transformation to become one of Your adopted children. Please Lord, and also let him be a major influence upon others who are in the same frame of mind that he has been in. A breakthrough is needed there Lord in that heart today. You have the power and might and the work of the Holy Spirit available to instigate this change. May it be, Lord, this day. May it be. I also pray for those Christians who are persecuted in the land of Iraq. Please may their dedication to their faith be a powerful witness so that others will be inclined to join them in this faith that is worth sticking with through thick and thin, through persecution and through isolation and rejection. You are totally worth it God and I am glad there are those in Iraq who stand upon Your firm foundation. I thank You always for what You have done there and for what You will do there today and tomorrow. Goodness abounds in the world based upon Your work. All glory to You. Amen

  23. 40
    Jean Says:

Dear Father in Heaven, when considering how to pray on today’s subject a quiet thought reminded me that You are the Great God of impossible and unexpected things. I know it is Your will that the “troublemakers” of Iraq find repentance and learn obedience to Your precepts, just as it is for all of us. For those to whom You are speaking today I pray that they will not harden their hearts and turn away from the heavenly vision, but that You will find hearts that are willing to receive You. I pray that even the most hardened and cynical individual will be startled to realize that You are speaking to him or her and will find the grace they need to turn from their evil thoughts and from their wicked ways. I love that You seem to delight to work with the hardest cases, for what seems impossible to man very possible for You. May great things be done for Your Name in Iraq today, and may You receive all the glory.

Heavenly Father, I also want to pray for Your troubled and harrassed Church in Iraq. May Your people find the grace they need to keep their confidence in You and find You bringing them through the troubles that they face and into circumstances of peaceful rest and incredible joy as they see how You have been at work in their behalf. In Jesus’ Precious and Holy Name. Amen.

  24. 39
    Betsy P. Says:

“Tame the troublemakers”….Lord, I will lift mine eyes to the hills, knowing my help is coming from You and You alone. Thank You for the faithful prayers of the intercessors on this site. I’m in agreement with them.
We cry out to You because there is no where else to go, no one else who can give the help that You can. Your Word says, “Vain is the help of man.”
Be exalted today in all the Earth, in Baghdad, all of Iraq and Afghanistan, Israel and the ME. For You are our very present help in the time of trouble, and You are able to tame the troublemakers. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.

  25. 38
    Jean Says:

Dear and Faithful Heavenly Father, there is so much need in Iraq today, as there has been for many years, because of violent and lawless individuals. Will You have mercy upon that land and its people, to set it free from the plans and wicked deeds of the violent aggressors, abusers, and terrorists who would like to control that nation? Will You consider the plight of the innocent people who have been victimized because of these individuals? May those who think to do such acts of violence and aggression be stopped by unexpected means. May they consider their ways and recognize that the aggressive acts they have planned and carried out are both evil and incredibly unjust. May they come to repentance and never return again to their violent ways. Loving Heavenly Father, only You can change a heart and cause an individual to change direction, changing from a troublemaker and a man of violence to a repentant man of peace. The prayer prompt asks for that to take place in one individual today. May there be at least one who repents of his wicked ways in Iraq today and may that one, and others who trust in You, be the ones who make the profoundest impact for good in that nation. For You are able to do all things, and to do them very well. May You be praised in Iraq and in all the earth today. In Jesus’ Holy and Wonderful Name. Amen.
