Wed- Hold the Peace

(Hold the Peace is a daily campaign of prayer through July 2009, to resist the current surge of violence in Baghdad. Please join us.)

Release Forgiveness

Scripture: O righteous God, who searches minds and hearts, bring to an end the violence of the wicked and make the righteous secure. -Psalms 7:9

Prayer: Lord there is a battle on for the soul of the city and the future of the people. There is no one besides You to help in the battle between the powerful and those who have no strength; so help the people of Baghdad LORD, to prevail against the wicked.

Break the power of revenge, and drive that evil spirit from the city. I stand Lord in the power of forgiveness releasing all who have wronged me, and I extend that grace to a strategic family in Baghdad. Stir within their hearts today an unexplainable grace to forgive, and release the vengeance in their hearts.

Bring together brothers, and sisters, cousins and families, heal the wounds of division in their clan and leave no place for vengeance to dwell. Break the cycle of violence in their history and let this day be a new beginning for them.

Restore their fellowship with one another, and use them Lord to promote peace in their circles of influence. In Jesus name, amen.

    Mary Ann Says:

Dear Father, I pray Matthew 5:38-48 for the people of Iraq, and the entire Middle East. Let them hear your truth and apply it to their lives, and let the Christians there be a bright example of your Word applied in real life.

“You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’
39 “But I tell you not to resist an evil person. But whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also.
40 “If anyone wants to sue you and take away your tunic, let him have your cloak also.
41 “And whoever compels you to go one mile, go with him two.
42 “Give to him who asks you, and from him who wants to borrow from you do not turn away.
43* ¶ “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’
44 “But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you,
45 “that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.
46 “For if you love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even the tax collectors do the same?
47 “And if you greet your brethren only, what do you do more than others? Do not even the tax collectors do so?
48 “Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect.
    In Jesus’ name. AMEN.

Dear Father, I pray all of Psalm 7 for Baghdad tonight, as I agree with Wayne’s prayer again. Please let forgiveness and integrity and respect and honor rule in Iraq, and throughout the Middle East.

O LORD my God, in You I put my trust; Save me from all those who persecute me; And deliver me,
2 Lest they tear me like a lion, Rending me in pieces, while there is none to deliver.
3 O LORD my God, if I have done this: If there is iniquity in my hands,
4 If I have repaid evil to him who was at peace with me, Or have plundered my enemy without cause,
5 Let the enemy pursue me and overtake me; Yes, let him trample my life to the earth, And lay my honor in the dust. Selah
6 Arise, O LORD, in Your anger; Lift Yourself up because of the rage of my enemies; Rise up for me to the judgment You have commanded!
7 So the congregation of the peoples shall surround You; For their sakes, therefore, return on high.
8 The LORD shall judge the peoples; Judge me, O LORD, according to my righteousness, And according to my integrity within me.
9 Oh, let the wickedness of the wicked come to an end, But establish the just; For the righteous God tests the hearts and minds.
10* ¶ My defense is of God, Who saves the upright in heart.
11 God is a just judge, And God is angry with the wicked every day.
12 If he does not turn back, He will sharpen His sword; He bends His bow and makes it ready.
13 He also prepares for Himself instruments of death; He makes His arrows into fiery shafts.
14 Behold, the wicked brings forth iniquity; Yes, he conceives trouble and brings forth falsehood.
15 He made a pit and dug it out, And has fallen into the ditch which he made.
16 His trouble shall return upon his own head, And his violent dealing shall come down on his own crown.
17 I will praise the LORD according to His righteousness, And will sing praise to the name of the LORD Most High.

    In Jesus’ name. AMEN.

    Mary Ann Says:

Dear Father, We have been given the gift of repentance unto life through Jesus. Most of these people in Iraq and Afghanistan for whom we pray don’t have that gift yet. So they don’t know the promises available to your people, promises you have already fulfilled, and promises you are in the process of fulfilling. Please draw these people to Jesus. John 6:44 says, “No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him.” So do that, Lord. Save the Iraqi people. Save the Afghani people. Destroy the works of the evil one and break all the powers of the idolatry of islam. Please, Lord. We ask in the name of Jesus. AMEN.

    Richard S. Says:

Righteous Father, “Who is a God like you, Who pardons sin and forgives the transgression of the remnant of His inheritance. You do not stay angry forever but delight to show mercy.” (Micah 7:18) Thank you! Help the people of Iraq to see how much revenge and unforgiveness are costing them. Help them to forgive and seek reconciliation. Open their eyes and hearts so they can see Your great love for them and how that was expressed in Jesus’ ministry on earth and his death on the cross. May they hear the good news about eternal life through repentance and faith in Jesus. In His name we pray. Amen.

    Vicky Says:

AMEN AMEN AMEN to Mary Ann’s prayer. Whatever it takes Lord! Help us to remain with our eyes on the end of the Book!

  9. 73
    Mary Ann Says:

Father, No matter what we see or hear, we declare YOU ARE LORD OF ALL. Let your Kingdom come and let your will be done in Baghdad, and do whatever you need to do to make that happen. We know nothing of what’s going on in that city; all we see are the reports of continued violence. But you have the final say. We pray and keep on praying for your peace to rule in the city and in that nation. We do not give up, and we do not lose heart. The enemy was defeated at Calvary, and he and his minions will spend eternity in the lake of fire. That’s the perspective we have and need, and we continue to look at the end of the Book, because you are victorious. So, Lord, please let that victory be tangible and obvious in Iraq starting today. We ask in Jesus’ name. AMEN.

  10. 72
    Mary Ann Says:

Dear Father, We’re in the middle of “Holy Week,” remembering what Jesus did so our sins could be forgiven. We remember what He said when He was being crucified–”Father forgive them…” Please let that same spirit of forgiveness break loose over all of the Middle East. Let the love of Christ burst out in homes and families, in businesses, in government offices, even in mosques, even in the hiding places of the terrorists. Let the truth of Christ be impossible to ignore or distort. Please save the people of Iraq, Father. I ask in Jesus’ name. AMEN.

  11. 71
    Mary Ann Says:

Father, there’s no news at the moment about what’s happening in Iraq. But that doesn’t mean that you are not moving in that nation. Please continue to bring your truth to these people. Let them know the freedom of Jesus, the freedom to be able to forgive and live in peace, without hatred. Please let your Kingdom come to Baghdad. Let your will be done. We ask again in Jesus’ name. AMEN.

  12. 70
    Mary Ann Says:

Dear Father, now that the elections have been held, please bring that spirit of forgiveness and unity that is so necessary for this country to become a real nation. Break the power of revenge and sectarianism, and the hatreds and suspicions that have been ingrained in these people for generations upon generations. Only you can do that, Father. The enemy has been feeding on these “traditions” for centuries, and using them to pit people against each other based on this false and godless religion of islam. Please bring that thing down, Lord. Let the truth of Christ and His love and forgiveness roll across Iraq and the entire Middle East, bringing down barriers and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God. Please glorify your name, Lord. Please let your Kingdom come and your will be done. I ask in Jesus’ name. AMEN!

  13. 69
    clifford Says:

Lord I pray for peace of you to be established in all of Iraq in Jesus Name. Protect the soldiers serving there and if they do not know you may they come to know you in a personal way. I pray this in Jesus Name!!! Amen.

  14. 68
    Judy Says:

Lord, I again ask … and my asking is a repetition and agreement in the prayer of forgiveness for today. May it extend all across the land..not just in Baghdad because as the elections come closer, I pray this country will not become embroiled in civil war. Yes, Jesus, In Your Name I ask…let peace, forgiveness, unity, to prevail with all the people of Iraq but especially with its leaders. Amen.

  15. 67
    Judy Says:

Lord, this prayer is right in line with news reports of what is happening in Baghdad..Iraq as the elections are set to take place. You have said “where two or more.” There are so many more, Lord, praying for the peace of Baghdad..a new dawning for this troubled nation…peace and prosperity for the people. Only by Your mighty power, Lord, can this come about. We ask You for it..for this day and in all the coming days. And we ask in Your Name, Jesus. Amen

  16. 66
    Mary Ann Says:

Dear Father, Your word in Romans 12 says, “14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse.
15 Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep.
16 Be of the same mind toward one another. Do not set your mind on high things, but associate with the humble. Do not be wise in your own opinion.
17* Repay no one evil for evil. Have regard for good things in the sight of all men.
18 If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men.
19 Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord.
20 Therefore “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; If he is thirsty, give him a drink; For in so doing you will heap coals of fire on his head.”
21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.”
So we pray this passage of truth over Baghdad and ask that you bring it to pass among the citizens in the city and throughout the nation of Iraq, and even to Afghanistan. Please fulfill verse 19, for vengeance is indeed yours, Lord. Glorify your name by bringing thousands of souls to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. And please make this passage real to our own soldiers. Bless and protect them as they do your work. We ask in Jesus’ Name. AMEN.

  17. 65
    PAT Says:

Oh Mighty God Powerful, and Glorious, and Loving you have showed us Extraordinary Kindness,You send your son Jesus to shed his blood for us also for the people of Baghdad, somehow some way by your mighty Spirit, let the people of
Baghdad know that your shed your blood for them too in Jesus name I ask amen and amen.

    Mary Ann Says:

Dear Father, I want to pray Hebrews 12:14-15 today: “Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord:
15 looking carefully lest anyone fall short of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up cause trouble, and by this many become defiled.”
The people of Baghdad, Iraq, Afghanistan, and the whole Middle East are engulfed in bitterness and revenge because of the lies they’ve been told through Islam. They have no concept of Christ’s love and forgiveness. Please open their eyes and hearts to the truth of the Gospel. No one comes to Jesus unless you draw them, Father. Please do that. There are Christians living in these places who can bring the truth as you set up divine appointments with individuals. We know you’re already working in these nations, and we cheer you on as you glorify the name of Jesus. Thank you for your hand of protection on our troops, and on all those who are preaching Jesus. We ask in His Holy Name. AMEN.
