17-Protection for Fathers

Scripture: “Keep me, O LORD, from the hands of the wicked; protect me from men of violence who plan to trip my feet.” -Psalm 140:4

Prayer: Father, You are the Lord of the impossible. You are the God that knows when we sit down and when we stand up. You know the number of hairs on our head, and nothing escapes Your notice.

muslimfamily.jpgWe come to You in Jesus name and ask for divine protection over the fathers and the households in Baghdad. Lord, we ask right now, that You would intervene on behalf of a father in Baghdad today and that instead of tragedy, there would be deliverance from death.

Father, release help from Your throne to keep the fathers safe so they can protect and provide for their families. Keep these dear people from the hands of the wicked, and protect them from the schemes of violence.

Lord we also lift up the soldiers who are fathers, and ask for a special protection and blessing over them today. Guard them Lord with Your divine protection. Surround them with Your favor like a shield. Guard their going out and their coming in, their rising up and their lying down. You alone are able, and we agree together for this in Jesus name. Amen!

    Mary T. Says:

    As I couldn’t put a link on this comment, I have cut/pasted a testimony below from the Jesus Film Project. Be greatly encouraged at our creative God who can reach the unreachable in Iraq in many unique ways! We praise you, Father. You are amazing!

    Iraqi Christians are reaching out to the Kurds in Northern Iraq with humanitarian aid and DVDs of “JESUS,” one of the most powerful tools for evangelism among these people in the world today.

    At a humanitarian aid center in another part of Iraq, there is a medical/dental clinic. One day, a Middle Eastern taxi driver walked in, needing dental work. He didn’t know the center was run by Christians. When he saw the Bibles and Christian materials he became quite upset.

    Even though repulsed, he waited to see the dentist. You see, tradition and culture teach that Christians are filthy, infidels…people to be shunned. After the procedure, he angrily walked out the door.

    One of the disciples followed him to his cab, offering a copy of “JESUS.” He told the driver, “Here, you may need this.” Still upset, the taxi driver accepted, saying, “Okay, okay, give it to me.” He grabbed the DVD from the worker and hurled it on his dashboard and drove away.

    An hour later he was back—pale, shaking and terrified.

    He told the workers, “This film saved my life! I wanted you to know what it did for me. Thank you!” Mystified, they asked, “When did you have time to watch it so quickly and become a follower of Jesus?”

    “I didn’t watch it!” explaining: “When I left your clinic I was stopped at a false check point.” (Armed radicals will sometimes set up traps or “false check points” on the road, where they demand to see a person’s ID. They are looking for people not of their religious sect. Many have been killed in this way.)

    He continued: “When I discovered I had no way out, I thought I was a dead man. I knew that when they saw my ID, that I was not of their sect, they would shoot me on the spot. As I pulled up and the guard was about to ask for my papers, he saw the DVD of ‘JESUS’ lying on my dashboard. He waved me on, calling to the other guards, ‘Let him go, he’s just a dirty Christian. Let him go.’”

    Now back at the clinic, and still shaking, he told the workers that he for sure would watch the film that night at home. The next morning he was back, totally changed and joyful, raving about all he had seen and experienced. He then asked: “Can you give me 50 more DVDs of ‘JESUS,’ please?! I have 50 taxi drivers I work with. They all have to see this film!”

    As you can see, God is bringing His message of hope and salvation to people, even to those not seeking Him. He sometimes uses miracles and tools like “JESUS” to bring them to faith. Powerfully transformed, they become his voice to others, even in places like Iraq.

    Claudette Says:

    Psalm 102
    A prayer of an afflicted man. When he is faint and pours out his lament before the LORD.
    1 Hear my prayer, O LORD;
    let my cry for help come to you.
    2 Do not hide your face from me
    when I am in distress.
    Turn your ear to me;
    when I call, answer me quickly.

    3 For my days vanish like smoke;
    my bones burn like glowing embers.

    4 My heart is blighted and withered like grass;
    I forget to eat my food.

    5 Because of my loud groaning
    I am reduced to skin and bones.

    6 I am like a desert owl,
    like an owl among the ruins.

    7 I lie awake; I have become
    like a bird alone on a roof.

    8 All day long my enemies taunt me;
    those who rail against me use my name as a curse.

    9 For I eat ashes as my food
    and mingle my drink with tears

    10 because of your great wrath,
    for you have taken me up and thrown me aside.

    11 My days are like the evening shadow;
    I wither away like grass.

    12 But you, O LORD, sit enthroned forever;
    your renown endures through all generations.

    13 You will arise and have compassion on Zion,
    for it is time to show favor to her;
    the appointed time has come.

    14 For her stones are dear to your servants;
    her very dust moves them to pity.

    15 The nations will fear the name of the LORD,
    all the kings of the earth will revere your glory.

    16 For the LORD will rebuild Zion
    and appear in his glory.

    17 He will respond to the prayer of the destitute;
    he will not despise their plea.

    18 Let this be written for a future generation,
    that a people not yet created may praise the LORD :

    19 “The LORD looked down from his sanctuary on high,
    from heaven he viewed the earth,

    20 to hear the groans of the prisoners
    and release those condemned to death.”

    21 So the name of the LORD will be declared in Zion
    and his praise in Jerusalem

    22 when the peoples and the kingdoms
    assemble to worship the LORD.

    23 In the course of my life [a] he broke my strength;
    he cut short my days.

    24 So I said:
    “Do not take me away, O my God, in the midst of my days;
    your years go on through all generations.

    25 In the beginning you laid the foundations of the earth,
    and the heavens are the work of your hands.

    26 They will perish, but you remain;
    they will all wear out like a garment.
    Like clothing you will change them
    and they will be discarded.

    27 But you remain the same,
    and your years will never end.

    28 The children of your servants will live in your presence;
    their descendants will be established before you
    13 The LORD thundered from heaven;
    the voice of the Most High resounded. [c]

    14 He shot his arrows and scattered the enemies ,
    great bolts of lightning and routed them.

    15 The valleys of the sea were exposed
    and the foundations of the earth laid bare
    at your rebuke, O LORD,
    at the blast of breath from your nostrils.

    16 He reached down from on high and took hold of me;
    he drew me out of deep waters.

    17 He rescued me from my powerful enemy,
    from my foes, who were too strong for me.

    18 They confronted me in the day of my disaster,
    but the LORD was my support.

    19 He brought me out into a spacious place;
    he rescued me because he delighted in me.

    20 The LORD has dealt with me according to my righteousness;
    according to the cleanness of my hands he has rewarded me.

    21 For I have kept the ways of the LORD;
    I have not done evil by turning from my God.

    22 All his laws are before me;
    I have not turned away from his decrees.

    23 I have been blameless before him
    and have kept myself from sin.

    24 The LORD has rewarded me according to my righteousness,
    according to the cleanness of my hands in his sight.

    25 To the faithful you show yourself faithful,
    to the blameless you show yourself blameless,

    26 to the pure you show yourself pure,
    but to the crooked you show yourself shrewd.

    27 You save the humble
    but bring low those whose eyes are haughty.

    28 You, O LORD, keep my lamp burning;
    my God turns my darkness into light.

    29 With your help I can advance against a troop [d] ;
    with my God I can scale a wall.

    30 As for God, his way is perfect;
    the word of the LORD is flawless.
    He is a shield
    for all who take refuge in him.

    31 For who is God besides the LORD ?
    And who is the Rock except our God?

    32 It is God who arms me with strength
    and makes my way perfect.

    33 He makes my feet like the feet of a deer;
    he enables me to stand on the heights.

    34 He trains my hands for battle;
    my arms can bend a bow of bronze.

    35 You give me your shield of victory,
    and your right hand sustains me;
    you stoop down to make me great.

    36 You broaden the path beneath me,
    so that my ankles do not turn.

    37 I pursued my enemies and overtook them;
    I did not turn back till they were destroyed.

    38 I crushed them so that they could not rise;
    they fell beneath my feet.

    39 You armed me with strength for battle;
    you made my adversaries bow at my feet.

    40 You made my enemies turn their backs in flight,
    and I destroyed my foes.

    41 They cried for help, but there was no one to save them—
    to the LORD, but he did not answer.

    42 I beat them as fine as dust borne on the wind;
    I poured them out like mud in the streets.

    43 You have delivered me from the attacks of the people;
    you have made me the head of nations;
    people I did not know are subject to me.

    44 As soon as they hear me, they obey me;
    foreigners cringe before me.

    45 They all lose heart;
    they come trembling from their strongholds.

    46 The LORD lives! Praise be to my Rock!
    Exalted be God my Savior!

    47 He is the God who avenges me,
    who subdues nations under me,

    48 who saves me from my enemies.
    You exalted me above my foes;
    from violent men you rescued me.

    49 Therefore I will praise you among the nations, O LORD;
    I will sing praises to your name.

    50 He gives his king great victories;
    he shows unfailing kindness to his anointed,
    to David and his descendants forever.

    1 I love you, O LORD, my strength.
    2 The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer;
    my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge.
    He is my shield and the horn [a] of my salvation, my stronghold.
    Lord Your hands upon them that under Your wing they will find shelter. AMEN

    M. Thompson Says:

    Dear Lord:
    For our Dearest Soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan please hear our prayers today:
    Psalm 140:
    Dear Lord:

    from the evil man: preserve them from the violent man:
    which imagine mischiefs in their heart; continually are they gathered together for war.
    They have sharpened their tongues like a serpent; adders’ poison is under their lips.
    Keep our US Soldiers, O Lord, from the hands of the wicked; preserve them from the violent man; who have purposed to overthrow our US Soldiers’ goings.
    The proud have hid a snare for them, and cords; they have spread a net by the wayside; they have set secret traps for them.
    I said unto the Lord, Thou art my God; hear the voice of my supplications, O Lord.
    O God the Lord, the strength of my salvation, thou hast covered my head in The Day of Battle!
    Grant not, O Lord, the desires of the wicked: further not his wicked device; lest they exalt themselves.
    As for the head of those that compass me about, let the mischief of their own lips cover them.
    Let burning coals fall upon them: let them be cast into the fire; into deep pits, that they rise not up again.
    Let not an evil speaker be established in the earth:
    I know that the Lord will maintain the cause of the afflicted, and the right of the poor.
    Surely the righteous shall give thanks unto thy name: the upright shall dwell in thy presence.
    In the Lord’s own words, So let it be done in Iraq and Afghanistan, Israel and America!
    For The Lord’s Words never go out in vain but accomplish that for which it was sent. Amen

    Dear Loving Father in Heaven, may Your will be done today in Iraq, and in all the earth, to Your honor and glory.

    “Oh, send out Your light and Your truth!
    Let them lead me;
    Let them bring me to Your holy hill
    And to Your tabernacle.
    Then I will go to the altar of God,
    To God my exceeding joy;
    And on the harp I will praise You,
    O God, my God.
    Why are you cast down, O my soul?
    And why are you disquieted within me?
    Hope in God;
    For I shall yet praise Him,
    The help of my countenance and my God” (Psalm 43:3-5).

    Loving Father in Heaven, thank You so much for earthly Fathers who dilligently seek You and are willing to serve You, no matter what the cost. I know You will preserve their souls, and that not one of them will be harmed, in the ultimate sense. Meanwhile, help us to all have confidence that if there be any trouble for those who endeavor to serve You, You will use that in the accomplishment of Your good purposes on this earth. Please help families who are in great difficulty to find their hope and confidence in You and may we yet hear of many good things being accomplished through Your servants in Iraq. In Jesus’ Loving and Holy Name. Amen.
