13-Calling Forth Baghdad’s Destiny

Scripture: “For nothing is impossible with God.” -Luke 1:37

Prayer: Lord, in You we live and move and breathe and have our being. You are a God of wonder and glory, who rules the nations by Your great power. There is nothing beyond Your reach, or out of Your sight. What seems impossible for us, is nothing to You.

baghdad-sunset1.jpgBaghdad needs an impossible solution, and so we come to You because You are God of the impossible. We cast off the vision of what Baghdad has become, and we embrace the vision of what You want Baghdad to be — a city of peace and harmony that will bless the people of Iraq and the Middle East.

We agree with Your desire Lord, and say in faith, “Baghdad come forth out of darkness and into the light of your destiny. Cast off your cloak of violence and fear, and step into the garments of harmony and freedom that will bless your people.”

Lord, release hope and a fresh anticipation into the hearts of the Iraqis: free them from despair and enable them to see the possibilities. We ask that You would pour out a great big dose of the impossible over Baghdad, and usher in a new season for that city and its people. In Jesus name, amen.

May children again play in the streets of this city..able to grow to adulthood without seeing their fathers die before their eyes…May wise old Fathers get to see their sons live before them…and not grieve at their gravesides…May these young people be able to grow up to live productive lives in their society…
Yet, God..we must submit to You…our Maker and Redeemer…for your wise plans are beyond our understanding…But we thank you , that you are a good God..and we know you care about his world.
Bless the people of this city and land.
    In Jesus Name, Amen

    Judy from Ohio Says:

Today He walks through Baghdad’s streets
And grieves at what he sees.
For so many need His mercy
    In their pain and misery.

    He sees the mighty armies
    The destruction on all sides,
He sees the fear and trembling
    He hears the children’s cries.

He longs so much to comfort
And to meet their many needs
But satan has so blinded them
False gods are all they see.

Just as he wept for Jerusalem
I hear Him weep once more.
A people that He longs to save
Have pushed Him from their doors.

But even in this godless land
There are those who still believe.
    We pray for their protection
And For God to meet their need.
    Judy Farrar

Lord today we pray that satan’s forces will be defeated and your love and mercy will be accepted in this country of Iraq. Thank you for what you are going to do. Amen

    Katie Rhodes Says:

Everlasting Father, we are indeed in difficult, impossible times, so we fix our eyes on Your face, beloved Savior. In a week when our own U.S. Senate opened Thursday’s session with prayers invoking Hindu deities to grant peace, we are grieved for Your Name’s sake. You have given us so much, and we repay You by calling on foreign gods in our nation’s capitol. Oh, Lord God, You are our only hope. Forgive us. Take away this reproach upon our nation, and even more this reproach upon the Church in America for failing to bring salt and light into our culture in Jesus’ Name. Forgive us for complaining about or ridiculing those who oppose our faith, instead of praying for them and seeking You for ways to overcome evil with good, as You taught us in Your gospel. Do not prolong the suffering in Iraq because of our unworthiness of victory as a selfish, divided nation. Move in such a way that it is clearly You, Eternal Yahweh, who is responding, lest the glory due Your Name is given to a god that is nothing, or worse. We ask You for mercy on us as a nation, and on the Iraqi people, for Your own great heart’s sake, certainly not because we deserve You, but because You are compassionate, gracious, slow to anger and abounding in lovingkindness. You know how to bring rescue to the needy while holding the guilty accountable. Yet even now I ask that those who have insulted You by calling on Hindu deities in our Senate would be granted to repent, that Your servants would reach out to them in gentleness to speak truth in love, if perhaps You might grant them to repent and to escape the snare of the devil, as they have been held captive by him to do his will. Thank You for all those who serve You in the righteousness and love that faith produces; encourage them today. Call forth the seekers of Your heart, Lord of Beauty and Power. Draw us away from pointless activities that have no lasting value. Teach us to love You completely, to love our neighbors as ourselves, and to love each other as Jesus has loved us. Let this 3-fold love speak words of Life to a dying world. Grant us grace to serve You in Your harvest. We lean against You and rejoice in humble thanks that You draw us near in love, though Jesus the Promised Messiah, our Savior and Lord. We praise You, Righteous and Holy God. We love You, Lord! Thank You for all the good that You do for us continually! Thank You that Your kindness rains down on the just and the unjust today! Thank You for Your good plans to do us good and not harm, to grant us a future and a hope. Jesus, You are our Hope. Thank You forever! We love You!

    Sharon Rose Wilcox Says:

Father, thank You that You call us to walk by faith and not by sight, calling those things that are not as though they are (2 Cor 5:7 & Romans 4:17). So, Lord we are not convinced by the evidence of our physical eyes, but by faith in Your power and plan concerning the city of Baghdad and every person who is living there. We declare that the giants in that land, when compared to You, are like grasshoppers! We pray that You will frustrate the way of the wicked (Psalm 146:9), wherever it may be found, and let ‘justice run down like waters and righteousness as a mighty and ever-flowing stream!’ (Amos 5:24) In Jesus Name, Amen!

Father, we don’t know what peace in the middle east means to You. But we know You are in control and we bow before You, trusting that You will have all power over this city and Nation and the whole MIddle East.
We ask that our Troops, the Troops from other Nations who are in Iraq and the Middle East will be kept in Your loving Hands. We ask for protection for the Iraq Police and that You will lead them in Integrity.
May Your Plan for Baghdad be clear, may the moving of Your Presence in the Middle East be so apparent that even those who want discontent and evil here in our country and in Iraq may be unable to keep the world from seeing You intervene!!
Oh Father,I pray for our Nation and for all the framilies who are waiting for their loved ones to come home. Comfort Lord, comfort for those who grieve even now. Healing for the wounded and healing for their minds as well as their bodies. Bring peace to all the families who are and will pay the price for this war. Ours and those in Iraq.

I plead the blood for and over these people, and especially for and over the troops and the mothers, both here and abroad who have children in the military and the mothers in Baghdad. Lord reveal Yourself through visions, dreams, and the power of Your Word and people who represent You. Lord, forgive us for failing You and Your people, and let us reach out to all who serve in the military, their families, and the people they defend. Thank you, again, for Your incredible sacrifice, and for the incredible men and women who serve in the Armed Forces.
